MIMHC: Keeping the mental health conversation going

by administrator

The Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC) has launched the third video in its interview series: ‘Keeping the mental health conversation going’.

Jason Berry, co-founder of the MIMHC talks to Peter Gwilliam, the founder and director of Virtus Search. Virtus provide specialist recruitment solutions in financial services and were one of the first signatory companies to the charter.

Gwilliam is himself a recently qualified mental health first aider and he talks about how he uses that knowledge in his professional life to understand a person’s capacity for change and ability to deal with stress.

The two discuss why work shouldn’t be the only purpose to a day. How we should all look to incorporate aspects of personal fulfilment – important for those working from home – as a solution to support mental wellbeing.

Gwilliam suggests that HR has a key role to play in making companies people centric, serving the needs of both the business and the people they represent.

He concludes that his personal coping mechanism is to understand that he cannot win everything and by managing his expectations he is better able to rebalance and refocus.

In forthcoming videos, Jason will be chatting with key figures across the mortgage industry about how they keep the mental health conversation going in their businesses.
