North American COO steps into global role

Global reinsurance broker Gallagher Re has announced the promotion of Mark Hansen to chief operating officer.

Hansen, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, will report to Tom Wakefield, CEO of Gallagher Re.

Hansen has served as chief operating officer of Gallagher Re North America since 2001. Prior to joining Gallagher, he spent almost 20 years at Willis Re North America, where he served as chief operating officer and director of US operations. Hansen began his insurance career at E.W. Blanch Co.

“Mark’s experience on the North American executive committee, along with his exceptional leadership, insightful contributions and commitment to Gallagher Re, make him an ideal candidate for this role,” Wakefield said. “We are excited to have filled this position from our existing expertise and leadership.”

Hansen will step into the role following a transition period with departing COO Chris Brook, Gallagher Re said.

Last month, Gallagher Re announced the appointment of Jonathan Allard as managing director and head of its newly established global credit and political risk team.

The company also recently announced the appointment of Andres Posada as executive vice president and head of sales for the Latin America and Caribbean region.
