My alarm goes off at…
…I don’t need to set an alarm. My 17-month-old daughter, Tilly, will always let me know when it’s 7am and time to get up.
Since returning to work as a new mum, organisation is now a must! I take our daughter to nursery, then check my emails and am usually on the road for 9am, off to my first broker appointment.
I wanted to work in the mortgage industry because…
…I’ve always had an interest in property. My first job was for Standard Life Assurance as a life and pensions underwriter, over 20 years ago.
But when I had the opportunity to be a mortgage underwriter I jumped at the chance.
Working closely with my brokers means I can help them develop and diversify their business
The role really developed my knowledge within the mortgage industry, then moving to intermediary sales felt like the perfect progression. I thrive on working with people and I love building relationships.
This role allows me to help mortgage brokers reach their goals and this, for me, has never been more important than in the current market.
Something that surprised me about my job was…
…there are always challenges in the mortgage industry; they just keep coming. But this is where our broker sales team can really add value.
I am proud to be part of such a motivated and passionate team
Keeping ahead of the game is essential so I can ensure brokers understand any market changes, new legislation and how this could affect their clients and business.
Working for a specialist lender like Aldermore allows us to continue to support clients, even those with complex income, but having those conversations with brokers and getting under the skin of these deals is essential.
A misconception about my role is…
…that it is all glamorous events.
My typical day entails…
…no two days are ever the same, but this is what keeps me motivated. I can go from having back-to-back broker meetings, eating a sandwich at the side of the road, to attending events with a lovely buffet.
This role allows me to help mortgage brokers reach their goals
Working with our internal teams and providing feedback to the business are integral to my role; they help us to improve our proposition and the service we offer.
And working closely with my brokers means I can help them develop and diversify their business.
This includes reviewing portfolios, assessing credit files and providing lending solutions for their client’s circumstances.
A perk of the job is…
…my team! Working as a business development manager can be challenging but the sales team at Aldermore are the dream team.
There are always challenges in the mortgage industry. But this is where our broker sales team can really add value
We share our knowledge, support each other and, most importantly, we laugh — we laugh a lot.
I am proud to be part of such a motivated and passionate team.
My favourite work memory is…
…once a year we go away for two nights to do Sea to Summit in the Lake District.
I thrive on working with people and I love building relationships
It includes an uphill cycle, canoeing over the lake and finishing with a mountain climb. We’re in mixed teams so it can get quite competitive, but it’s great to mix with staff from across the business and have a laugh and unwind together after completing the challenge.
To unwind after work…
…I love to cook, so I like nothing better than putting on some music, pouring a glass of wine and sitting down to enjoy a lovely meal with my family.
