Amex Referrals Are Back!
Update (Sep 17, 2025) – Amex referrals are working again for those who have not been able to refer. Some of my referrals had not worked for the last year or two and then started working briefly in April and then in July. They are back again now as we get ready for the revamped Amex Platinum and Amex Business Platinum Cards. If you have been having this issue and you can generate referrals now, I suggest you save the referral link right away.
It will likely go away again soon. If you have the link you will receive the referral bonus, even if the ability to generate it goes away.

Original article (Apr 15, 2025) – Some Amex cardholders have not been able to generate referral links for a while. This was usually affecting personal Membership Rewards earning credit card such as Amex Green, Gold and Platinum cards.
I have not been able to refer from my Amex Gold card for almost two years now for example, while I have been able to refer from my Charles Schwab Platinum card.
Today referrals are finally back on my Amex Gold card. Several members of our Facebook Group report the same thing.
It’s not clear what prompted this ban on referrals, but the good news is that referral are back for many of those who were affected. The same thing happened almost exactly one year ago, but I didn’t get lucky back then.
As you can see, I am now able to refer again from my Amex Gold card and I will earn 15,000 Membership Rewards points for every referral, up to maximum of 100,000 points per calendar year. The person applying can earn 60,000 points or more, but that can vary on who is clicking the referrals link. You can read more about American Express referrals here.
