News Roundup

This is a roundup of news and other interesting pieces that I’ve come across over the last few days. Read about new flights from Bay Area to Asia for just $230, Newark Airport no longer in NYC, Citi Expedia cards discontinued, Delta Sky Club Red “Line Skipping Pass”, and Air New Zealand touches down in the Big Apple.

You’ll soon be able to fly from the SF Bay Area to Asia for just $230

Zipair, a low-cost subsidiary of Japan Airlines, has now set Dec. 12 for its introduction of service between Mineta San Jose Airport and Tokyo Narita, offering three flights a week with a two-class 787 and expanding to daily service in 2023.

Through Nov. 30, Zipair is offering introductory fares as low as $230 each way for travel from Dec. 12 through March 25. Japan has kept strict COVID rules for visitors in place longer than most countries, but earlier this month, the government ended its requirement that inbound foreign travelers must show proof of a negative COVID test before departing from home.

Newark Airport Will No Longer Be Considered an NYC Hub

Air Transport Association (IATA) “has introduced a new standard for ‘Multi-Airport Cities,'” which are metropolitan areas with multiple airports that are united under one IATA city code.

In the case of the New York metro, all three airports are currently listed under the city code NYC, though each has its own airport code as well: EWR, JFK, LGA. But IATA’s new standard, which is due to go into effect on Oct. 3, will remove Newark from the NYC city code and give it its own. That means Newark will operate under a separate pricing structure from JFK and LaGuardia.

Could that be a good thing for travelers? Perhaps, as it might become cheaper to fly into New Jersey than New York — or vice versa.

Citi Expedia Cards Discontinued

Citi has discontinued the Citi Expedia cards and existing no annual fee cardholders are being converted to the Citi Rewards+. The card with the annual fee will be converted to Citi Premier.

The Delta Sky Club Red “Line Skipping Pass”

Just because you can finally make it inside the club, doesn’t mean you’re able to stay. You may need help with a reservation. But here’s something you might not know bout the Delta Sky Club lines. There’s a way to skip the velvet rope.

Air New Zealand touches down in the Big Apple

Air New Zealand touched down at John F. Kennedy International Airport today, marking the first of its non-stop flights connecting the city of sails and the city that never sleeps.

Air New Zealand now serves seven destinations in North America – Chicago (from 31 October), Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver and (after much anticipation), New York City.
