Giving Assistant Shuts Down, File Claim If You Have a Balance

Giving Assistant, a relatively popular shopping portal, is shutting down. It is already under legal proceeding to pay off creditors with its available funds. Legal documents are posted on the website (and I have uploaded it here) but it looks like very few customers have been notified about it.

Based on that document, only debts incurred on or before the date of the assignment are eligible for consideration by the assignee. That date is November 16, 2021. So I believe that means that Giving Assistant will only consider paying cash back for purchases through November 15. And even that will likely pro-rated, based on available funds.

The timing and the fact that they didn’t inform most users, seems very shady. If you have heavily used Giving Assistant for your Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping, you could be out of luck.

If you still have a balance with Giving Assistant, you can file a claim using this form. The deadline for filing claims is May 16, 2022.

The form states that Giving Assistant will not share any information regarding the distribution of proceeds from the liquidation of its assets until the claim submission deadline of May 16, 2022 has passed.

Guru’s Wrap-up

This is a good reminder to always withdraw cash as soon as possible from shopping portals. The same applies to buying clubs, and other similar companies.

Let me know if you have used Giving Assistant recently and if you have any extra information or any further details. I haven’t used them much over the last year. The last payment I received was via PayPal on November 14th for purchases made in August and September.
