One in five buyers regret conveyancer choice: Smoove

A survey of 1,000 homeowners describes 19% of respondents regretting their choice of conveyancer, Smoove reports.

Additionally, 26% of people asked said they were “unsatisfied” with their conveyancing experience.

The main reason for this was the cost – which 42% of people who were unhappy with their conveyancer cited – followed by the quality of service, at 38%, and the length of time to complete, not far behind at 36%.

However, the good news is that 61% of those surveyed said they were happy with their experience and would recommend their conveyancer to friends and family.

And word of month remains the primary way to originate business – 33% of the people satisfied with their conveyancer asked said that when choosing a firm they listened to friends and families, on par with estate agent referrals – also 33% – followed by the recommendation from a mortgage broker, at 23%.

The survey forms part of Smoove’s ‘Home Movers’ report, which focusses on the stressful nature of moving that nine out of 10 people report.

On its findings, Smoove chief customer officer Tony Leonard says: “Conveyancing is often regarded as one of the most complex and stressful aspects of moving home. Digitising aspects of the conveyancing process, such as allowing checks and documents to be reviewed and signed digitally is already serving to increase the efficiency and reduce the expense of current systems of conveyancing.

“Increased digitalisation and integration (or communication) between all parties involved will improve the experience for home movers and allow conveyancers to dedicate more of their energy to offering valuable legal insight and client support.”
