A jury has awarded a coal mining company $32.7 million in the miner’s lawsuit against insurance companies owned by Chubb.
Coal mining firm Ramaco Resources sued Chubb after the insurer denied coverage for damages suffered by Ramaco due to the 2018 collapse of a coal storage silo at its Elk Creek coal complex in West Virginia, according to a report by Mining Weekly.
Last week, a jury ordered Chubb to pay Ramaco $7.7 million in compensatory damages and an additional $25 million for inconvenience and aggravation. Ramaco said that the verdict is not final and may be subject to post-trial motions or appeals.

Ramaco is an owner and developer of metallurgical coal in southern West Virginia, southwestern Virginia and southwestern Pennsylvania, with executive offices in Lexington, Ky., according to Mining Weekly. The company has five active mines in two mining complexes.
