United Airlines MileagePlus to Introduce Mileage Pooling
United Airlines is planning to introduce mileage pooling to it loyalty program MileagePlus. The new feature was first revealed by @xJonNYC on Twitter, which is a very reliable source.
MileagePlus will have the ability to join a group of friends or family members and add miles to a collective account. Each individual decides how many miles to throw into the pool, but once in the pool, those miles can be used however the pool leader had set up. You will only be able to join one such pool at a time.
Some other airlines already offer this option, but it’s great to see one of the major domestic carriers finally offering it. There’s no word when the new option will be introduced just yet.
Pooling points can provide access to more expensive awards that may have been out of reach for individual accounts. It provides more convenience, flexibility, and the opportunity to maximize the value of MileagePlus miles.
